I believe that for education to be effective, students need to be healthy. Mental health and student well-being are so important for schools to operate well, yet these issues can be overlooked when decisions are being made.
It is important to create ways for students in schools to talk about issues impacting them in a safe way with people who know how to help. Positive mental health programs include providing trained mental health professionals at a school-level, providing training programs to teachers and school staff and continuing to foster and grow positive school cultures through policy and programming.
As a psychologist with experience advocating for positive, preventative solutions for mental health I believe I could be a strong advocate for student well-being.
